The Maritime Compass blog recently wrote a interesting post entitled Maritime Flickr in which they talk about the fun you can have discovering contemporary and historic maritime photography on the photo-sharing website. With today’s NMM announcement, Heather was ahead of the curve. (Inside knowledge, perhaps?) One can only wonder when Mystic Seaport will hop aboard with these other world class institutions in sharing their collection in this exciting social media project.

In addition to an amazing collection of historic maritime photographs, NMM has also posted a set of images of the installation of Simon Patterson’s The Undersea World and Other Stories which was one of the maritime art projects presented during Sea-Fever’s Maritime Art Week.  (Maritime Art Week – Simon Patterson’s “The Undersea World and Other Stories”)

Finally, I chose the above photo for this post because it’s brought back some great memories from this summer’s holiday visiting my wife Jenny’s family in Norfolk, England. Here’s my modern day version of that photo, also on Flickr. Thankfully, somethings don’t change all that much!
