The Launch of the Weekly Leader Podcast

Weekly Leader podcast On the very unlikely chance that you are not a subscriber or regular reader of my other Internet baby, Weekly Leader, we launched a podcast yesterday and you should listen to it and give me your feedback.

I’m lucky to have had Pam Fox Rollin as a co-host for this first episode and even luckier to have had the opportunity to interview Peter Aceto who is the CEO of ING Direct Canada.

Please check it out and let me know what you think.

Win a Spot Satellite Messenger!

spot_satellite-messengerMy podcasting partner, Captain John Konrad, is holding a pretty simple contest over at gCaptain.com to win a Spot Satellite Messenger. All you have to do to enter is comment on this post and you’ll be entered into a drawing. Simple, eh? Of course, go to gCaptain.com and make sure that you read the official contest rules and legal mumble jumble.

Not familiar with the Spot Satellite Messenger? Listen to episode 26 of Messing About In Ships where John does his usual great job covering safety equipment.

Good luck!

Thoughts on Tall Ship Asgard II’s Past and the Future of Sail Training in Ireland

BBC - Devon - Places - Tall Ships Torbay gallery_1221592979123

As previously reported, on September 11, 2008, the Irish sail training vessel Asgard II was lost in the Bay of Biscay. Thankfully all souls survived. (A Significant Loss for Sail Training, the sinking of the Irish Asgard II)

RTÉ is Ireland’s public service broadcaster and they produce an excellent podcast called Seascapes that celebrates this island nation’s strong maritime heritage. In this week’s episode, RTÉ interviews Captain Tom McCarthy and they reflect on the loss of the Asgard II and the future of Irish sail training. It’s a great podcast, listen to the complete episode if you have the time. Actually, find the time, you won’t be disappointed.
