A Look Back at Good Mornings in Shipyard Park (2011)

Each morning I take a photograph with my iPhone using a program called Everyday to capture what the start of the day looks like at Shipyard Park in Mattapoisett, MA. I post these images to Facebook, Twitter and Google+ where they consistently get many thumbs up and comments. In fact, if I miss a day or 2, people get worried and email me often tongue in cheek complaining that their day got off to a rotten start without the image of Shipyard Park.

I have been taking photographs since I was about 10 years old and I’ve always been interested in using the media to capture time and place. The Everyday iPhone app is great because in addition to helping to set up the photo each morning, it also creates these cool little movies like this one for 2011. Enjoy.

I started a new photoblog called Shipyard Park.

Back in the whaling days, there were six shipyards that built the whaling ships that sailed out of New Bedford and Nantucket. It was a busy, rough and tumble type of place back then. But no longer. I’ll be telling more of the story of Shipyard Park in the future, but for now suffice it to say that it’s a beautiful spot in every season and I’m trying to capture and share just a little bit of that.

I’ve been taking a photo every morning for the past month. It’s kind of like a local weather report. It’ll be interesting to see how things change over the seasons Let’s see how long I can keep this up. I’ll do some other things there too because Shipyard Park is a very cool place and you should be able to experience it too! I’d love to hear what you think about the park and project/website.
