Vote for your favorite Sea-Fever post by September 30, 2007 and get a chance to win an iPod Shuffle

iPod Shuffle from gCaptain

The iPod Shuffle that I won last week as part of the gCaptain Discoverer iPhone contest arrived yesterday but it’s not destined to stay long. It’s still in shrink wrap and ready to ship out to a new home. It could be yours by September 30th.

gCaptain logo For those that aren’t familiar with gCaptain’s Discoverer site, where you been? It’s like Digg.com but way cooler because it’s all about messing around in boats. They have been running a great iPhone contest in September.

So here’s the deal. In an effort to continuously improve the Sea-Fever blog, I am interested in which posts you enjoy the most. A number of them have already been put up on the gCaptain.com Discoverer site and you can find them here.

Simply register with gCaptain, which is quick, painless, private and secure, and then vote for your favorite Sea-Fever post from this list. If you can’t decide, don’t sweat it; you can vote for more than one. Of course, there are hundreds of other interesting posts by other great submitters so please read and vote for them too when you see something you enjoy. The only requirements/conditions to be entered in the iPod Shuffle contest are that you must vote for at least one Sea-Fever post and I will also only cover the postage for shipments to the United States and Canada.

Once you’ve voted for your favorite Sea-Fever post(s), send an email to seafevercontest@gmail.com with the post title(s) and your gCaptain username so I know how to contact you if you win. Voting will remain open through September 30, 2007.

Three prizes will be awarded:

  1. The grand prize will be the iPod Shuffle. The winner will be randomly drawn from the people who voted for my most post with the most Discoverer votes.
  2. Second prize will be a copy of Irving and Exy Johnson’s 1955 classic book Yankee’s People and Places. The winner will be randomly drawn from people who voted for any of my other posts.
  3. Third prize will be a copy of the American Sail Training Association’s book, Sail Tall Ships! 16th edition. If you don’t win the iPod and Johnson book, you will be eligible for the third prize drawing.

On October 14th at a time to be determined, we will draw the winners for the above prizes live over the Internet via UStream.tv. Details will follow.

For the sake of full disclosure, I also want to win gCaptain’s iPhone contest and your votes could help me. However, you are also free to enter gCaptain’s iPhone contest by submitting your own items and you can vote for others so there is no guarantee that the iPod Shuffle contest will help me. Win or lose the iPhone contest, the iPod Shuffle is heading to a new home in mid October and I hope that you get in the game.

gCaptain.com is a great resource for the maritime community and regardless of these silly contests I hope you register and visit it frequently. Tell all your colleagues and friends to join in the important conversation that is happening there. And good luck!
